چکیده

In two dimensions, vorticity is materially conserved in an invisicid environment. Additionally, if the fluid is nondivergent, the velocity field can be determined from a solution to the Poisson equation relating velocity and vorticity. Vortex methods translate these well-known facts as well as the ability to capture the time evolution of Lagrangian particles into a method of representing the flow evolutions of initially defined vorticity fields (Leonard 1980). Although vortex methods are now also used to model the development of three-dimensional flows with or without viscosity, they evolved from the adherence to two fundamental equations.

A New Technique for the Calculation of Colliding Vortex Rings

The present study involves a novel computational technique, regarding simultaneous use of the pseudo particle method, Poisson integral method and a special-purpose computer originally designed for molecular dynamics simulations (MDGRAPE-3). In the present calculations, the dynamics of two colliding vortex rings have been studied using the vortex method. The present acceleration technique allows...

Stochastic differential equation models of vortex merging and reconnection

We show that the stochastic differential equation sSDEd model for the merger of two identical two-dimensional vortices proposed by Agullo and Verga f“Exact two vortices solution of Navier– Stokes equation,” Phys. Rev. Lett. 78, 2361 s1997dg is a special case of a more general class of SDE models for N interacting vortex filaments. These toy models include vorticity diffusion via a white noise f...

On the nature of vortex interactions and models in unforced nearly-inviscid two-dimensional turbulence

A powerful feature-tracking tool is applied to several high-resolution, very long-duration, regularized contour dynamics ~contour surgery! simulations of unforced nearly-inviscid two-dimensional turbulence ~2DT! on the surface of a sphere. Particularly low density gases of vortices ~i.e. on average, very widely separated vortices! are examined to ascertain the nature of their interactions. The ...

Unifying scaling theory for vortex dynamics in two-dimensional turbulence.

We present a scaling theory for unforced inviscid two-dimensional turbulence. Our model unifies existing spatial and temporal scaling theories. The theory is based on a self-similar distribution of vortices of different sizes A. Our model uniquely determines the spatial and temporal scaling of the associated vortex number density which allows the determination of the energy spectra and the vort...
